i can’t write a comprehensive nishikiryu post rn so i’ll just bullet point everything i want to say.

• nishiki and kiryu come from the same yakuza family (kiryu is an ex-yakuza after he got framed for murder) and they’re each other’s sworn brother. or kyoudai. i can’t really claim to comprehend this concept but well it’s there. seems like it’s a tie that runs deeper than “family” can describe

• OKUR SO BASICALLY kiryu was framed for murder by his former family. he tries to prove his innocence and crosses the three lieutenants of the family along the way. nishiki- who’s still active in the family and is only secretly helping kiryu out- drives the two of them to a forest while claiming he’s “helping kiryu escape”. he actually wants to try and kill kiryu out of pity, apparently because those who cross the dojimas are tortured to death or something whatever. that’s all u need to know for context.

NISHIKIYAMA: Kiryu… You know what they do to guys who fuck with the family? Dojima’s crew are the experts when it comes to making examples. They know exactly how bad you can torture a guy before he goes… and they make damn sure it lasts! They’ll keep you clinging on... make it hurt as bad, as LONG as possible! Make you watch while they dissect you. Then when they've broken the last little part of you… the bodies of these guys they find… you can’t even tell they’re human anymore!

• yeah i just didn’t want to include the whole. torture bit. in the text above.

• nishiki’s always had this like massive inferiority complex against kiryu. wc is exacerbated after the events of y0 and in the beginning of yK, when kiryu takes the fall for a murder nishiki committed and serves ten years in jail. he realizes he’s nothing without kiryu and even worse his family drills it into his head- that he’s useless and can never become a chairman in the family. plus their adoptive father kazama always did favor kiryu over nishiki :( 

• so kiryu spends ten years in prison and while he’s sitting on his ass there nishiki becomes a yakuza boss but he’s kind of given up his humanity and everything to achieve his goals. and also now he’s the antagonist and kiryu has to kill him.

• except kiryu doesn’t rly kill him. i spoiled myself massively while writing this because i haven’t played kiwami yet and i’m not even finished with 0 but nishiki ends up sacrificing himself for kiryu in the end because of some other reason or whatever i don’t know i don’t want to spoil myself any further

• i don’t even ship nishikiryu romantically ok i believe some ties go deeper than surface level romance like this is a whole new level to devotion
